Folkestone

In Folkestone, quaint cobbled streets meet cutting-edge art and sea views to France.

The Creative Quarter is home to a plethora of studio-galleries, quirky stores and chic eateries. Meanwhile, the historic Leas Lift is a fun way to ride between cliff top and the Lower Leas Coastal Park and a chance to take in the fresh sea air.

Folkestone has a thriving arts and creative quarter as a result of the projects led by the Creative Foundation. Every three years, during the Folkestone Triennial, world-famous artists are invited to use the town and its public spaces as their canvas to create striking new art. Many works are then retained on permanent and free display in the town, as the Folkestone Artworks contemporary art collection. The Quarterhouse is a lively performance venue for music, theatre, comedy and dance, and its varied programme runs throughout the year.

It is also home to the annual Book Festival, which takes place in November.
